The restaurant at this heritage property is truly stunning.  You’ll never forget the dramatic design and lovingly-done heritage décor.  It’s worth a visit just for the scenery.  And the food is spectacular.  Try the fish in curry sauce, cooked in banana leaf.  The brown rice is wonderful, as is the eggplant and goat cheese salad.  The dark chocolate crème brulée is extraordinary.  The staff is friendly, and mostly efficient and discreet.

The Oberoi: Worth it just for the view
We dined in the casual, open air restaurant on the vast, green lawn, where we took in the view of the otherwise secluded, magnificent beach nearby.  Our lunch was an epicurean delight.  The prosciutto, artichoke and mushroom pizza was the highlight, with its perfect flavor and crispy, thin-crust texture.  We concluded, respectively, with deep (sic) chocolate ice cream, and pistachio and cardamom ice cream.

The service was initially extraordinary.  Our glasses were kept full with the complimentary filtered water, and our chairs were promptly pulled out for us when we arrived at the table and, later, when we returned from a short look around.  Then, perhaps due to shift change, we had different servers and experienced a different quality of service.

The pan fried mahi-mahi is just right.  The fish was flavorful and flaky.  Perfectly cooked.  Also noteworthy was the pumpkin pie with coconut sorbet.  Lovely.  An epicure we encountered in Lombok warned us off of the triple chocolate cheesecake.  Service could be more attentive and efficient.
